Dev Dragon is a franchise character, appearing in multiple shorts and an original television pilot.
With the release of the iPad in 2010, I noticed a disturbing trend in which people would destroy their brand new tablets just for views on YouTube. Interested in cashing in on the trend but unwilling to destroy my device, I realized it could all be achieved for free through the magic of animation.
While my plan for views was largely unsuccessful at the time, what emerged was a charming new character named Dev, a die-hard Apple fanboy. Dev would eventually receive two sequels with twists on the original formula, a 3D animated short made for my digital special effects class, and finally, a starring role alongside the one-and-only Henry Spencer.
In 2014, my school partnered with Corbin Bernsen (Psych, LA Law) to produce an original feature film. During this time, Corbin was gracious enough to lend his voice to my senior project, a 10-minute animated pilot called "Return of the Bearded Dragon."
The proposed series told the story of Dev's uncle Ted, a washed-up 80's action star in desperate need of a reboot. While my final pilot is the very definition of the "college try," I would still love to see the Bearded Dragon return someday.
