Scary Cotton is the original Budgess Man franchise, with two animated shorts and a comic book prequel.
I had made quite a few shorts while teaching myself Toon Boom Studio in high school, but Scary Cotton was first time I had executed on a truly original concept with production value, introducing characters and gags that people really responded to. Scary Cotton was when it all clicked.
Due to the tremendous response from friends and family, I decided to create a sequel the following year. Scary Cotton 2 was an even bigger step up in production value and scale, and a really fun opportunity to generate franchise hype with teaser trailers and a big premiere at my church's youth group. Even at such a small scale, I saw the effects of a franchise done well, and knew this was exactly what I wanted to do.
With the deepened lore introduced in Scary Cotton 2, I developed a fairly large backstory, which I eventually told in my very first comic book, Legend of the Scary Cotton.
I hope to be able to return to the medicine cabinet for more adventures someday soon.
